Beschreibung
Signed First Edition, First Printing of this early basketball biography of the first dominating superstar in professional basketball, George Mikan. Not only Mr. Basketball of his era, Mikan remains a candidate with the likes of Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James for the all-time Mr. Basketball. Really? Really. Did he really 83.3 percent of his team's points in a pro game? Yes, and that's a really unbeatable record. But that otherworldly mark is just a quirky footnote in a career that arguably had the biggest impact of any on the shape of professional basketball. During the first years after the founding of the NBA, Mikan collected the first bunch of banners for the regal Lakers franchise, albeit in the club's Minneapolis days. The first overwhelming basketball big man, he was so dominant that the NBA adopted a so-called Mikan Rule to level his prowess. That's the creation of the modern Lane AKA The Paint with its limit of three seconds residence in that vital patch of floor. The crime of Goaltending was devised in another Mikan limiting measure. And cunning, but snooze-inducing, measures to limit the damage inflicted bh Mikan led to the creation of the 24 second clock. Then there's the Three Pointer. Three Pointer? How does that relate to a guy who was washed -- before Michael Jordan touched his first basketball -- after playing a playoff series on a broken leg? Mikan was a founder of the ABA and, despite an on-court history as Mr. Camp By The Basket, was a huge force behind the creation of The Trey. Steph Curry thanks you, George -- even if you were a Laker. Signed by George Mikan on the front endpaper. Yellow cloth, 80 pages, illustrated. The dust jacket has chips at the edges and a previous owner name inked on the back cover. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 014828
