1930. First edition. ix, 370pp., frontispiece, 7 black and white illustrations, 2 maps, and a 4 page publisher's catalogue. Sir George MacMunn (1869-1952) was a Lieutenant-General in the Royal Artillery. He served with distinction on the North-West Frontier, during the third Anglo-Burmese War, in South Africa, and the Dardanelles campaign in the First World War. In this book he writes of Kashmir and the Frontier, the Boer War, Simla, duty at the War Office, the Dardanelles, the evacuation of Suvla and Anzac, the Mesopotamian Command, etc. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends and bottom front corner. The contents are tight and clean with scattered foxing. The foxing is mostly light although pages 203 to 208 and a few others and the endopapers are more heavily affected. The fore edge of the text block is heavily foxed and on some pages this has seeped a little way into the fore margin. This copy is from the library of General St George Bewes Armstrong (1871-1956) and has the following inscription on the front free endpaper: "St. G.B. Armstrong from E.A.A. Christmas 1938." There are substantial handwritten notes by Armstrong, on pages 136 and 137 where an incident concerning Armstrong is mentioned. There are two red lines and a small correction on page 183, a little underlining on page 141 and a note at the top of the index (page 359). The clipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with light soiling and the spine is slightly browned and wrinkled. Small pieces are missing from the corner tips and up to about 1/4" is missing from both spine ends. There are a few nicks on the edges and a small tear near the middle of the front spine edge that has been repaired on the reverse with tape. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers gMilGen41
