Dorothy A. Plum, well-known Adirondack bibliographer, wrote about than sixty years ago in the following terms: "When I saw these delightful little books, with their uniform bindings resembling bitch bark and illustrations from excellent photographs, and even more, when I had a chance to read them, I realized that here was a treasure indeed . . . Anyone who likes the Adirondacks camping, hunting and fishing, will enjoy these volumes." The original edition of 19 books about camping, fishing and hunting in the Adirondacks, published privately between 1914 and 1932 was never available to the general reading public. Less than 100 copies were printed and distributed to the author's friends at Christmas time. These books have become so rare and so coveted by collectors that, when available, they command a premium price.I'm not sure that it's still accurate, but according to the Harbor Hill Books 1980 reprint of "The Birch Bark Books of Henry Abbott" "Only two libraries are recorded as having complete sets of all nineteen volumes: The Adirondack Museum, and The Owen D. Young Library of St. Lawrence University. Each volume is signed by Henry Abbott. These very fragile volumes range in condition from about very good to fine with all spines intact.
