A presentation copy, inscribed to the front free endpaper, 'Hazel, with love from Cecil, London, 19/8/30'.Loosely inserted is a signed card with a hand coloured Donald Duck. This is accompanied by a Christmas message. To the reverse is a further inscription, reading 'to dear Lorna and Hazel, with love from Nellie and Cecil'. This message appears to be in Nellie's hand.Initially appearing in the Madras Mail between 1924 and 1925, this is the first edition in book form of this charming work.With twenty-four full page illustrations, and further vignettes, this is a delightful work in which the author presents twenty-four vignettes depicting life in Burma in the early twentieth century. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with discolouration to back strip, and light mark to front board. Inscription to front free endpaper.
