A romantic novel set during the Franco-Prussian War. Signed presentation from Chatfield-Taylor on the front endpaper, to a longtime Iowa Congressman: "To The Honorable David B. Henderson, with the compliments of the author. March 4, 1902." Henderson (1840-1906) was a 10-term Republican Congressman from Iowa and was Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1899-1903. We was also the first Congressman elected west of the Mississippi River and the last Civil War veteran.
