This copy is inscribed to President Herbert Hoover's campaign publicist, author, republican political operative, and fellow Quaker, David Hinshaw. David Hinshaw (1882-1953) oversaw campaign publicity for President Hoover's 1928 presidential campaign. During the 1928 republican convention, Hinshaw reportedly secured the support of the Pennsylvania delegation, and thereby, the nomination for Herbert Hoover. Shortly before Hinshaw's death in 1953, he published a biography about President Hoover titled American Quaker, which examined their mutual faith and how it impacted their upbringing.
