This copy fondly inscribed by the author on the title page to his stage manager, great friend and personal assistant Trish [Montemuro] and dated the year of publication. 8vo. 16pp stapled into glossy card wrappers, which are a little faded and handled. A very good copy. Two poems written during the Gulf War and originally printed in 'The Guardian' in March 1991. "Years later, when Tony was first trying to fax his newly finished gulf war poems, 'Initial Illumination' and 'A Cold Coming', from his home in Newcastle to the Guardian newspaper group, he sent them first to me at the National Theatre. He wanted to be sure that a 'known someone' was there to collect the pages as they rolled out of the machine. He had, in black marker pen, printed my name above the title in large letters. I have saved those copies (dated Friday, 1 March 1991, 16:07), which contained a few of his own handwritten corrections, looking at them today, despite having kept them out of the light in a file box these sixteen-odd years, I find the pages are so faded it is only just possible to make out the text, like mere yellowing cards" - Trish Montemuro, 'Postcards from a Well-Travelled Poet'.
