Beschreibung
9 works in 1 volume. 4°, contemporary quarter calf over marbled boards, (rubbed, slight wear to extremities), spine gilt, edges sprinkled blue-green. Contemporary signature of Brigadeiro Antonio Lobo da Silva in blank portion of 2 title-pages. *** The first five documents in this volume were printed for the exclusive, and probably confidential, use of the Portuguese Cortes: each bears on the verso of the title-page the notice, "Faz-se esta edição por ordem das Cortes: ficando prohibida a reimpressão por qualquer particular." Borba points out that such works are quite scarce, since the editions were limited and copies were not offered for sale. The first two documents are imperfect: the first lacks the text and the second lacks the title leaf; since the two pamphlets have nearly identical titles, the title-page of the first was presumably bound in to replace the missing title to the second work. The contents of the volume are as follows:[D. PEDRO, Principe de Alcantara, later D. Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil]. Cartas, e mais pecas officiaes dirigidas a Sua Magestade o Senhor D. João VI . . . em data de 26, e 28 de Abril deste anno. Lisbon: Imprensa Nacional, 1822. FIRST EDITION. Minor soiling. Two neat inked signatures in blank portion of title. 6 pp., (1 blank l.), lacking pp. 3-6 (text). Borba de Moraes (1983) I, 162.
