Beschreibung
First Edition (NAP). Signed and inscribed on the front inside cover ('To Alvin W. Hall, With highest regards, Chip Robert, 1937'). Chip Robert has written that he was a close friend of the author's family. There are a few other copies of this book for sale on the Internet that were signed and inscribed by Chip Robert. One is to Eleanor Roosevelt and another to a U.S. Senator. Lawrence Wood "Chip" Robert Jr. (1889?1976) was a 1908 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and founder of noted Atlanta engineering and architectural firm, Robert and Company. Robert was appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt as Assistant Treasurer of the United States, serving from 1933 to 1936 and was in charge of the Works Progress Administration; he was then appointed secretary of the Democratic National Committee in 1936, and was the executive officer of the Conference of Southeastern Governors in November 1937. Alvin W. Hall was an official in the United States Department of the Treasury and was Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing from 1924 to 1954. He was the youngest Director of the Bureau ever, and also the longest serving, holding office for thirty years until his retirement in 1954. Which brings us to the description of the condition of the book. I haven't been avoiding it, the condition is excellent. The covers are a brown suede. They are very clean. They have little to no wear (see photos). The spine ends have a tiny bit of rubbing. The six edges and four corners are in very good shape. The gilt lettering on the front is still very bright. And the book is square, straight, and very solidly bound from cover to cover. The page edges have no soiling. The interior of the book is near-perfect. The pages are exceptionally clean. I didn't see one instance of soiling. That includes the inside covers and end papers. They're also in excellent condition, without any creasing or dogeared corners. The only imperfection is a small paper clip impression off the top edge of the front end paper. Its vague outline can be seen on the next few pages as well. Finally there is a fold-out map which is in excellent condition. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 002041
