Warren performed the operation (a surgical excision) while Morton served as anesthetist. Warren's support of the new development was in large part responsible for its subsequent worldwide acceptance. In this fascinating booklet, Warren gives a firsthand description of the early use of ether in surgery, including a detailed account of the famous operation mentioned above" (Heirs of Hippocrates 1345). One possibility is David Humphreys Storer, who was dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School from 1855 1864. Storer was present at the autopsy of John Collins Warren in 1856.
