Inscribed first printing of this tale of how a young cabala student armed with a magical piece of chalk saved the residents of an inn run by witches and devils. Nonny Hogrogian, an Armenian-American from a family of artists, started her bibliographic career as a book designer for publisher Thomas Y. Crowell. She worked as an art director for several other publishers, until she earned her first Caldecott Medal for ALWAYS ROOM FOR ONE MORE in 1965 the success inspired her to become a full-time illustrator. It was a good choice: she earned another Caldecott Medal in 1972, and a Caldecott Honor in 1977. Many of her works incorporate aesthetics and stories from her Armenian heritage. 8.5'' x 7''.
