Inscribed First Edition of this large format children's book celebrating the ships, sailors and strategy of the U.S. Navy, published just months before the Navy's darkest day -- Dec. 7, 1941. This copy is inscribed by writer and naval officer Victor F. Blakeslee with the inscription dated Oct. 2, 1941. Blakeslee would eventually command the Naval Amphibious Supply Base at Exeter, England in the course of the war. Quite uncommon signed. Poignantly page 35 includes a painting of a scene of Pearl Harbor that Lt. Blakeslee confidently describes as the Gibraltar of the Pacific. 76 pages, illustrated. Heavy wear at edges.
