First Printing inscribed, dated ("28/9/56") and signed by Dr. John MacCormick, formerly Lord Rector of Glasgow University and Chairman of The Scottish Covenant Association. This is a very interesting history of the struggle for home rule in Scotland. There is a brief gift inscription on the front pastedown (inside front cover). Otherwise, pages are clean and free of creases or damage. 222 pages including index. The binding is sound and the textblock is square. The exterior blue cloth boards are completely clean with fading to the very top edge. The back cover has a 2.5" crease. The two top cover corners are each lightly bumped and there are some spots on top of the book only (the top outer page edges). The dust jacket is price-clipped, has some discoloration from sun exposure along the edges and the spine. There is also a minor sticker scar on the spine. It shows just the slightest soiling but has wear along top and bottom edges with some very small chips and some tears, the longest of which is about 2".
