Beschreibung
8vo., blue boards and black cloth lettered in silver; pictorial dust jacket. First edition. Louise Meriwether's copy, with her ownership signature on the half-title page and numerous annotations, several of which refer to "mood ebony" and W.E.B. Du Bois's writings regarding the "color line" ----- Acclaimed author and tireless activist, Meriwether earned a permanent place among literati whose writings reassess the African American experience. During the 1960s, in Louisiana, Meriwether worked with the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), where Farmer served as the program director; back in New York she was instrumental in keeping Muhamad Ali, then world's heavyweight champion, from fighting in South Africa and breaking a cultural boycott. A wonderful association copy linking two of the enduring civil rights activists of the era. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers ABE-14432164283
