183 pages. Baxter was the Magistrate of Perth and wrote of such golf celebrities as Old Tom Morris, Allan Robertson, et al. This is an outstanding history of the game and the evolution of the golf clubs in Perthshire, from the ancient days of golf on the North Inch, the later move to the South Inch, concluding in then modern times (1890s). Poems by Neil Fergusson Blair and other Royal Perth Golf Club members, ten pages on the history of golf ball making and Perth club makers, biographical sketches, etc. Much of the information in this volume is published therein for the first time. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR OPPOSITE THE TITLE PAGE: "WITH AUTHOR'S COMPLIMENTS. PETER BAXTER". Bound in the most desirable original maroon cloth with gilt lettering on front cover, with original fern-patterned endpapers. (This book was also issued in paper covered boards, that wrappers edition often appearing rebound.) Only slight wear to gilt, cover tips and spine ends. A small rubbed area on front pastedown, pp. 123-138 upper page corners creased, first and last pages toned from pastedown offset.
