First Edition (NAP, Libra Publishers= NAP up until 1985). Signed and inscribed by the author on the blank first front end paper ( 'To Rita with love, Nechama'). Once listed, this will be the Only signed copy of this book for sale anywhere on the Internet. Professor Tec wrote the book 'Defiance: The Bielski Partisans' on which the film Defiance is based, as well as a study of women in the Holocaust. She was awarded the 1994 International Anne Frank Special Recognition prize for it. You can see the light blue covers in the photos. They have some embedded dust staining or foxing. It doesn't jump out at you. There's also a little bit of dust staining on the top edges. The other four edges are free of any wear. There is a tiny crease just below the front top corner and another just above the bottom rear corner. Neither had any impact on the pages. The corners are in very good shape, no rubbing at all. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. There is just a little bit of very light spotting on the inside covers. The facing front inside end paper, the signed page, does have some spotting along its top and middle margin. It stops there. All of the pages are exceptionally clean, no spotting, no soiling, nothing. They're are also in excellent shape. I'm not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. Positively, it doesn't appear to have any tears. However it does have a fair amount of spotting/foxing. There is also a thin line of smooth rubbing across part of the title on the spine. And there's a little bit of rippling just adjacent to the spine on both the front and rear cover. The flaps also have spotting/foxing at their margins. They are otherwise in solid shape. I've had the jacket in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book which goes back a number of years. From the dust jacket: 'In relying upon the theoretical formulations of Becker, Lindesmith, Merton and Sutherland, this study departs from others by pursuing an eclectic approach to deviance, and by its effort at bringing together survey research, theory, and illegal drug publications. More specifically an attempt at explaining adolescent marijuana use is made through an examination of three basic adolescent affiliates: the family, school, and peers. After relating each and all of these areas of interaction to marijuana use, the results show that rewarding familial experiences not only curtail direct experiences with marijuana, but are capable of preventing exposure to drug using friends. Moreover, even when integration into the marijuana subculture has taken place, familial variables, while not able to influence all drug experience, are nevertheless influential in curtailing the level of marijuana use. In contrast to currently held views, neither the presence of drug using friends nor extensive involvement with marijuana imply the existence of meaningful friendship patterns. On the contrary, the results indicate that those to whom friends mean relatively little are more likely to have drug using friends and are more likely to become extensive marijuana users. Similarly, little support is found for the prediction which links unfulfilled aspirations and lack of achievement to drug usage. Proceeding cautiously, the author challenges many empirical findings and theoretical predictions. The end product offers alternative and, at times, provocative interpretations and findings on family, school, and friends, and the role they play, not only in relation to drugs, but in modern day society in general.'.
