Beschreibung
Signed paperback original of the first book by the Hungarian-born American author, the first of non-Anglo/American descent to be nominated for the Astounding (then John. W. Campbell) Award. A HOSTAGE FOR HINTERLAND is an expansion of Darnay's three-part novella "Helium," published in GALAXY April - July 1975. In 1976, Darnay became the first author not born in the UK or the United States to be nominated for the industry's most illustrious award for new writers, now known as the Astounding Award. The Astounding Award for Best New Writer is presented annually during the Hugo Awards ceremony. In 2019, it was renamed from the John W. Campbell Award after winner Jeanette Ng's acceptance speech emphasized how Campell's fascist, racist, and sexist opinions affected his role as one of the genre's most powerful gatekeepers. (Her speech subsequently won a Hugo for Best Related Work in 2020.) This copy is signed by Boris Vallejo, the Peruvian artist who first made a name for himself illustrating the covers of paperback reprints of Tarzan and Conan the Barbarian books; he has been nominated twice for the Hugo for Best Professional Artist. 7'' x 4.25''. Original orange pictorial wrappers with cover art by Vallejo. Yellow-stained edges. Publisher ads at rear. [6], 248, [2] pages. Signed by Vellejo in blue ink on title page. Only trace edgewear: clearly unread. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 39734
