First edition, first print paperback. Signed by the author to the dedication page in black pen. The book was signed by JK Rowling for a group of Year 6 pupils from Millfield Preparatory School in Glastonbury who were taken by the school librarian to meet the author at Waterstone's in Wells, Somerset, in spring 1999. The book is in very good condition, with un-creased covers and just the lightest of creases (barely visible) to the spine. Internally unmarked; short 4mm tear to margin of one page, not affecting text. Text block clean and unmarked, toning to top edge of text block. Spine is sunned, as is a band down the length of the spine on the front panel and, less visibly, a thin strip on the rear panel in the same location. A very good copy. Otherwise as god as new. Dust jacket not price clipped. Provenance: We bought this at a prominent auction house in the UK. Apart from the experts at the auction house we have also analysed the signature and inscription. Handwriting and signature matches Rowling's 1998-1999 style of signing her books. In the years 1997-1999 Rowling was a far lesser know writer than from the year 2000 onwards when Pottarmania went off the charts. For the first three books she toured the UK regularly and visted a few schools and bookshops to do signings. This is the second book in the seminal Harry Potter series that took the world by storm causing Pottermania everywhere. 'Chamber of Secrets' won the British Children Book of the Year Award in 1998 following Rowling's success with 'Philosopher's Stone' in 1997. Adapted as a blockbuster film in 2002.
