Author(s): Harry Crews Title: The Hawk is Dying Publication: New York: Knopf, 1973 Edition: First Edition, Review copy Description: Octavo, 226pp., full bound black cloth boards with yellow top stain, silver gilt to spine. First edition stated. First state jacket with $5.95 price intact and author photo to rear panel. First edition and first printing, signed and inscribed advanced review copy, with publisher s review slip and author photo laid in, as well as a clamshell case. This is part of the Tom Garner collection of books. Garner, a Texas defense attorney, was a friend of Crews and as such, Crews would put some wild and insightful inscriptions in the books he signed for Garner. This particular copy is a perfect example of that. Crews writes, in response to the Flaubert quote, which he circled, The toughest and truest thing ever said about the blood sport of writing. A really nice insight into Crews relationship with his craft. Signed copies of his work, particularly ones with wild inscriptions like this one have been getting scooped up with regularity and don t last very long on the market. This one, being a review copy, with a case and promotional photo and lengthy inscription. Book in about Fine condition with sharp corners, clean interior and beautiful top stain. Gilt lettering with trace rubbing. Jacket in NF with some foxing at the corners of the flaps, not price clipped and otherwise in great condition. This novel was turned into a film (which I have not seen) starring Paul Giamati and Michelle Williams in 2006. Though the movie did not perform well, the book remains one of the finest in Crews catalogue. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 00000042
