"Handsomely bound in finely woven black cloth stamped brightly in gold on the front boards and on the spine. A near fine copy, very clean and tight throughout; virtually unread. In an attractive dust jacket that has the original price of $21.00 at the top of the inside front flap and the "4/92" code at the bottom of the rear inside flap. The rear panel features a photo of a joyous Maya Angelou. This copy is signed elegantly by Toni Morrison under the half title. A lovely, collectible copy. Jazz is a 1992 historical novel by Pulitzer and Nobel Prize-winning American author Toni Morrison. The majority of the narrative takes place in Harlem during the 1920s; however, as the pasts of the various characters are explored, the narrative extends back to the mid-19th-century American South. The novel forms the second part of Morrison's Dantesque trilogy on African-American history, beginning with Beloved (1987) and ending with Paradise (1998). Jazz was Morrison's most recently published work when she was awarded the 1993 Nobel Prize for Literature. In the novel, "Morrison uses a device which is akin to the way jazz itself is playedThe result is a richly complex, sensuously conveyed image of the events, the characters and moods."[1] The novel is referenced in S1 Ep5 of the NBC procedural show Found. The character of Felice is referred to as "one of Toni Morrison's most dynamic characters" and "curious [and] brilliant." Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. Inscribed "Toni Morrison / April 2000" on title page in blue ink. Born February 1 8, 1931, Lorain, Ohio, USA. Original name CHLOE ANTHONY WOFFORD American writer noted for her examination of black experience ( particularly black female experience) within the black community. She received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. Morrison grew up in the American Midwest. She attended Howard University (B.A., 1953) in Washington, D.C., and Cornell University (M.A., 1955) in New York. After teaching at Texas Southern University for two years, she taught at Howard from 1957 to 1964. In 1965 she became a fiction editor. From 1984 she taught writing at the State University of New York at Albany, leaving in 19 89 to join the faculty of Princeton University. The central theme of Morrison's novels is the black American experience; in an unjust society her characters struggle to find themselves and their cultural identity. Morrison's use of fantasy, her sinuous poetic style, and her rich interweaving of the mythic gave her stories great strength and texture. Signed by Author(s). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 002036
