The Jersey Devil shall return!" 121 pp. Bound in publisher's purple cloth with silver lettering. Near Fine, tiny stain to bottom edge, in a Very Good+ unfaded dust jacket, worn at extremities, price-clipped. Scarce signed. The first book-length account of the Jersey Devil (AKA The Leeds Devil). Legends of such a creature in the vicinity of the New Jersey Pine Barrens date back to the 18th century. The rash of sightings in 1909 launched its reputation as a modern cryptozoological or supernatural entity/ hoax. The creature was reputed to be a flying horse or kangaroo-like animal with hooves. This cataloguer ran across a copy of this book as a child, at the school library, and was utterly terrified and fascinated by it-- greatly contributing to a lifelong obsession with weird Americana.
