Noble, USN (ret); Dear Chuck: Herewith is your personal, autographed copy of Professor Morison s Liberation of the Philippine Islands, just off the press. Volume XIV which will complete the series, except for an index volume, in shaping up in manuscript form for publication next year. I know you will find this volume interesting. Best Wishes Judge (E. M. Eller). From the blurb After the Battle of Leyte Gulf, which crushed Japanese naval power in the Pacific even more effectively than American naval chiefs were aware at the time, we moved against Japan to liberate the Philippines. A series of amphibious operations took place on the islands and shares of Mindoro, Lingayen Bay, Palawan, Panay, Negros, Cebu, Corregidor, and Mindanao. During World War II, Noble was commander of Aitape Attack Force in April 1944, commanded a Naval Attack Group during the battle of Wakde in May 1944, and was Commander of Amphibious Group Eight, during operations against enemy forces in Mindanao and Balikpapan in mid-1945. Noble received the Navy Cross in 1944. Noble was promoted to vice admiral on December 29, 1950, in charge of the Office of Naval Material. He retired on October 1, 1951 and was advanced to admiral based on his combat service. This book, 338 pages is in fine condition in a very-good dust jacket that is now in a protective mylar wrap. A large fold-out map is present at the rear of the book. A wonderful association copy of an important book on the United States Naval operations in World War Two. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 2316b
