Zustand: Near Fine. Rawhide Edition. First edition. The Rawhide Edition, #263 of a limited 265 copies signed by Frank J. Dobie and Tom Lea, with an additional, very personal two page inscription by Dobie to a former owner, dated March 12, 1941. Dobie describes his pride in completing this work, "I have an idea that the strictest of scholars would admit that some of it shows genuine research. Yet I don't know of any other historian in America-- unless it be Carl Sandburg-- who would -- or could-- pile up preposterous yarns on top of documentary evidence and mix cow manure with moth dust as I have done here." xxiv, 388 pp. Specially bound in full saddle leather, branded by the author and artist; lacking the dust jacket. Near Fine with fading to spine, rubbing to edges with toning to endsheets. In a Very Good pictorial slipcase with dust soiling to top edge, toning and foxing to title. Soiling to boards and light fraying to edges. The classic account of the lore of cattle-ranching in America, including cowboy folk tales. Dobie would later go onto win the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 140947026
