Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 2 oversized volumes. Both are recently returned to us from the bindery where they have been professionally rebacked with purple cloth to match the faded leather original, with spines in the new purple and all the original, highly decorated, leather of the covers fully preserved. Original headbands and marbled endpaper preserved, though new hinged peek through at the gutters, providing strong and reliable use. The original bindings are stamped 'Wigand, Binder, N.Y.' Frontispiece illustration with tissue guard, illustrations throughout. Both volumes dated 1890. Volume 1 has 341 pages. Volume 2 continues to page 703. Bindings tight, pages clean. At the front of the first volume, tipped in, there is a folded sheet of letter paper with contemporary portraits of Blackmore pasted down front and back, and a handwritten note from Blackmore within. Dated Jan 9, 1888, 'My dear sir, You are quite welcome to my brief + meagre attempt at.' [a bit tricky to read his script] signed R. D. Blackmore. Despite his immense popularity, Blackmore autographed very little. Signed copies of his most (only?) significant work (this one) are scarce. Volumes measure 7.5 x 10 inches are are hefty, so extra shipping will be required. Signed by Author(s). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers XXV-18
