"T/ Tommy Mellett/ Very Best Wishes -/ Erich Segal/ 27 July 1970/ London, England". The basis for the Oscar award-winning movie of the same name directed by Arthur Hiller, produced by Howard G Minsky and starring Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal. While the film was being produced, Paramount wanted Segal to write a novel based on it, to be published on Valentine's Day to help pre-publicise the release of the film. When the novel was released, it became a bestseller on its own in advance of the film. The UK first edition is inexplicably uncommon. This inscribed copy is rare find indeed.
