Frontispiece black and white photo of Copeland in an evening gown. Blue cloth with gilt letters on the front cover and the spine and with a vignette in gilt on the front cover of the Copeland coat of arms. Very minor wear to extremities with nothing rubbed through, spine gilt very slightly dulled, cover gilt bright, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Frances Spalding Copeland (1884-1943) was married to a U.S. Senator from New York, Royal Copeland, who was in office 1923-1938. This book describes life as a senator?s wife, in particular the obligations of a hostess. I have been unable to identify the couple to whom the book is inscribed. ?Out of my personal experiences there has developed in my mind a general feeling for the basic qualities that make entertaining a pleasure shared by both guest and hostess. For years it has been in my mind that a book about entertaining could be useful. .a book that calls attention to those qualities that make one a good hostess, a good guest, in the deeper sense of the words.
