With KNIGHT D.B.E, R.A, DAME LAURA: AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED TO BARROWS, WINIFRED: Single sheet, on one side, dated 25th January, 1969 with original hand-written envelope and franked stamp: Begins: ?Beloved Winifred, Heartfelt congratulations! Your performance was great. Your voice sang silvery sweet and we heard every single word from start to finish of your wonderful experiences. I only wish I could fully express the joy you gave to us, Miss Worth, and a delightful friend of hers?. The letter goes on to ask after her health and then describes ?this warm period of weather we are enjoying, like all the birds in our London garden who are rushing from branch to branch of the skeleton tress, believing real spring has come? all love to my most adored Winifred and to Jane. Ever yours devotedly, Laura?. A warm and affectionate letter, in fine condition. With KNIGHT D.B.E, R.A, DAME LAURA: AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED TO BARROWS, WINIFRED: Single sheet, on one side, dated 16 June, 1969 with original hand-written envelope and franked stamp. A letter to one of her closest friends firstly enquiring about her partner: ?My dearest Winifred, I am longing to hear from you saying that Jane is no longer a sick woman? and goes on to mention the work involved in curating what would be her final exhibition in her lifetime at the Upper Grosvenor Galleries entitled: ?Laura Knight 75 Years Of Painting?. (Knight died three days before her exhibition at the Nottingham Castle Exhibition in July, 1970). She writes: ?I have had to go slow after the desperate hard work entailed in getting a truely (sic) representative exhibition together. This meant the borrowing of a considerable number of pictures, their insurance and transit, a perfect host of correspondence. But I assure you that Jane and yourself have been constantly in mind the whole time? With all my love and thought for your dear self and for Jane, Ever yours, Laura. The exhibition is lasting until 28th of June.? A warm and affectionate letter, in fine condition. With KNIGHT D.B.E, R.A, DAME LAURA: AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED TO BARROWS, WINIFRED: Single sheet, on two sides, dated 15th March, c.1969: Begins ?Beloved Winifred, Thank you so much for your wonderful appreciation. It is hard for me to realise that you, the scholar you are, should find merit in my little scribbles, done just because I love the fun of it and the joy of trying to do something in words expressing passage of time. This is impossible in paint, which can only speak of one instant in time?. Knight also mentions that she has a ?great friend, George Greenfield, who I have been told is the best literary agent in London. If you think my scribbles worthwhile, I could speak to him about them. He did read a tiny scrap and did not tell me to tear it up. With all my love to you and Jane (Parke), Ever yours, Laura?. A warm and affectionate letter, in fine condition. Winifred Barrows was Principal of Lawnside School in Malvern for nearly half a century. A keen thespian, she invited George Bernard Shaw and Edward Elgar to afternoon tea at the school during the Malvern Festivals. Knight?s literary work was never published and she died a year after this letter was written. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 000646
