Beschreibung
Stated First Edition. Signed '(Your friend William Lyon Phelps') on the first front end paper. Really nice-looking book. Remarkable, considering it was published in 1929. The edges and the corners are in very good condition, show very little wear. The covers are clean. The gilt lettering on the spine doesn't jump out at you, but it is not worn and quite visible. This small book is well-bound. There's only one instance where you can see a little space between two opposing pages. The space only goes down about a third of the way and neither page is affected by it in any way. There is a little bit of darkening off the top edge of two other opposing pages, sort of just looks like a shadow. I turned over every page and didn't see any soiling. There aren't any markings or attachments. The pages are in excellent condition, without creases or dogeared corners. The page edges are also very clean. Not too many books from 1929 still possessing their dust jackets. You can see this one in the first few photographs. The flaps are in very nice condition, although each corner has a small tucking-in clip. No price is present. You can see from the photographs that the orange coloring has faded on the spine. There's also a tiny bit of loss at the spine ends, not affecting the lettering. And there is one tear off the bottom edge of the front and another off the top edge of the rear. There's a little bit of handling soiling or perhaps it's just darkening on the covers. But all in all, it's pretty solid dust jacket that has held up quite well. I've already fitted it into a protective cover. 'Memory' is an essay about the curiosities of remembering and the varying abilities of memory possessed by certain individuals.' If I recall correctly it runs 50 pages. 'William Lyon Phelps was an American author, critic and scholar. He taught the first American university course on the modern novel. He was a well-known speaker who drew large crowds. He had a radio show, wrote a daily syndicated newspaper column, lectured frequently, and published numerous popular books and articles. As a professor at Yale, Phelps' courses became the most popular and well attended on campus. He had an engaging speaking style and was personally involved with what he taught. He wrote about English and European literature. During trips to Europe he met many of the leading writers of the turn of the 19th century.'. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 001405
