Beschreibung
1st U.S. printing. Book appears unread, with just a touch of speckling to top of text block; unclipped ($3.25) DJ is unfaded with some edgewear; looks nice in Brodart cover. Inscribed on front endpaper, "Danny from Mike --." Laid in are two of Michael Redgrave's notecards, on heavy stock, dated 2 Nov 61 and written on both sides: "Dear Danny/ I can't tell you how much it has meant to me -- and I know to Glen -- to have you by us. I trust it will not be the last time. By that I mean that the years go by so swiftly -- even more swift in the theatre than in life. When there is too much *molto accellerando*, life and the theatre are not worth living, which is why your sanguine temperament -- combined with your gifts, and not least of these is your *love of what you are doing* -- inherited, no doubt -- make you the kind of person the theatre needs. The theatre is like a chapel in a circus tent and I know you will understand I don't mean that in the sense of the ridiculous. *That is how it should be.* I loved your thoughtful first-night gift, and the note with it. Im sorry these didn't arrive in time for me to inscribe them for you for the first night. But what is a first night? The other nights matter more. Even the rehearsals matter more, *en somme*. Michael." Indeed, 11/2/61 was the date of the second Broadway showing of "The Complaisant Lover," in which Redgrave was starring; it ran 101 performances. "Glen" is Glen Byam Shaw, Redgrave's longtime professional partner (and lover of Redgrave's wife -- it was complicated) and director of "The Complaisant Lover." Not sure who Danny is, but I'll keep looking! A biography focusing on Redgrave's career on screen and stage: His son Corin gets a passing reference, while his daughters Vanessa and Lynn go unmentioned. Uncommon signed by the subject. 170 pages + photos. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 7414

If I've mischaracterized a book, please let me know, and I'm happy to accept returns for refunds.
Orders usually ship within three business days. I generally pack books in boxes, with padding, and unless they're unusually bulky or heavy -- more than four pounds or so -- I won't ask for additional shipping costs. For domestic media-mail buyers, anyway. Prices for international and even priority shipping can get *insane*.
