In the publishers original red cloth, worn, chipped, marked, scratched and repaired with a map in the front paste down pocket and a panorama in the rear paste down pocket. Blind stamped regimental stamp to the panorama. Signed and inscribed from the author to a Mrs Turner with the affection of the Author xx, 344pp. An account of the defences of this Turkish garrison, directed by English troops, against Russian invasion. Original red cloth. Illustrated with lithographs a map in the front pocket and large lithographic panorama of the defences in the rear pocket. Complete with 2 full fold out maps of The Fortress of Kars and View of the Town & Fortress of Kars. Approximately 9 inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine fair condition gilt titles, bruised top and tail, small piece of the cloth missing at the top of the spine, embossed pattern, lean to the spine. Joints fair condition rubbed, worn and cracked to the rear joint but glue repaired. Corners fair condition bumped and worn with the cloth worn through in places. Boards fair condition cloth boards with embossed pattern, general wear. Page edges good condition top edge darkened, tanned and foxed. See above and photos. Internally Hinges fair condition sound, both hinges have been repaired. Paste downs fair condition brown paper, both paste downs have a pocket which holds two fold out maps as described above. End papers fair condition brown paper, some internal end papers are tanned and foxed, there is a hand written message on one of the front end papers dated 28th April 1857 by the Author to Mrs Turner. Title fair condition lightly tanned with some foxing. Pages fair condition a number of paper guarded plates throughout, page 59 has the top right hand corner missing, pages are lightly tanned throughout, tears to page edges (frontispiece), a tear to the signed half title with loss - see photos.
