First Edition (NAP). From The Chicago History Of American Civilization, edited by Daniel J. Boorstin. Signed, Inscribed, and Dated by the author on the first front end paper ('To Myra, with much affection from Dexter, May 26, 1957'). Once listed this will be the Only Signed book for sale anywhere on the Internet. And the writer is no slouch. You can read about him at the bottom of this description. 'Dexter Perkins takes an objective look at Roosevelt and his times, the great depression, the great social experiment, the great war, and presents a balanced evaluation of America from the Blue Eagle days of NRA to the shocking April afternoon of Roosevelt's death. A fair-minded, clear, and brief guide (it runs 194 pages) to that complex man and even more complex era'. Frank Freidel, Christian Science Monitor. You can see the covers in the first few photographs. There are a few speck-sized spots on the front cover. There's also a crease at the top right-hand corner of the front cover. You can only vaguely make out that 'The Chicago History Of American Civilization' was inlaid in very small letters on the front cover. The gilt lettering on the spine is slightly faded but unworn. There's a little crinkling at the spine ends. And, as you can see, there are areas on the rear cover where the blue color has been lost. This book is very solidly bound, no issues in that regard The interior the book is in excellent condition. The pages are quite clean. I didn't see any creasing or dogeared corners. With the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. And there aren't any markings or attachments. 'Dexter Perkins was a prominent authorities on United States History who served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of American History at the University of Rochester.
