Illustrated with six black and white captioned photos and two black and white maps, including one that lists the homesteads by name on the watershed of Eagle River. Title page decorated with a drawing of a miner's lantern. Booklet includes several poems apparently penned by the author. Stiff cream-colorer wrappers with a plastic comb binding and with a drawing in black on the front cover which reproduces the photo of James C. Stanley's home in the Horseshoe Valley, December 1918. Just touches of wear to extremities, covers clean, front cover slightly darkened around the top edge and the edge nearest the binding, corners square and flat, gift inscription on inside of front cover, all photos and maps in fine condition, plastic comb intact, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Born in Vancounver, B.C. in 1910, Golden Stanley lived with his parents in the Horseshoe Valley from 1916 to 1923 where they had established a Crown grant homestead in the wilderness that is now waterfront on the west side of Lois Lake. Severe economic conditions terminated his education at the University of British Columbia after just one year. Still, he worked professionally at a research chemist and had many avocations, including plant taxonomist, newspaper nature columnist, photographer, museum curator and archivist (Powell River's first), librarian, and surveyor. In 1985 he lived in Powell River in the home he established in 1940. Stanley died in 1986. This is a rare find and "must have" for anyone in the Horseshoe Valley or Powell River areas of British Columbia. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 009213
