First edition, first printing. Signed by the authors, inscribed with an original drawing. Original red cloth with an illustration and titles in black on the upper board, with the remnants of the original dustwrapper. Illustrated in colour throughout. A very good copy, the internal hinges starting but firm, the extremities lightly rubbed and very slightly bumped. The lightly toned contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Included is the remnants of the original dustwrapper which is worn and chipped, lacking most of the spine. Scarce in inscribed presentation state. Inscribed by both Margret Rey and H. A. Rey alongside a doodle of pretzel the dachshund in blue ink on the front free endpaper "To Regan Jessett / [dachshund drawing] / Margret Rey / H. A. Rey". A wonderful story about the romantic escapades of "the longest dachshund in all the world". Margret and H. A. Rey were a German-American husband and wife team who created many beloved children's books, though they are best known for the hugely popular 'Curious George' series starring an adventurous monkey which has been adapted into various animations (and even a video game).
