First Edition -- signed by Lou Boudreau and more than other 10 Cleveland Indian players -- of the baseball autobiography of the famed player-manager who led the Cleveland squad to rare World Series glory in 1948. Filled signatures from the 1949 Cleveland squad, sometimes conveyed with a quite familiar tone. Lou Boudreau signed the book on the front endpaper. A previous owner applied period protective tape -- protective maybe but prone browning -- to the signature. Most of the other signatures (all tape free) are on the last page of text and the three blank endpapers that follow. With 7 signatures on those pages, the signer wrote a full name: Bob Feller, Al Rosen, Bob Kennedy, Jim Hegan, Allie Clark, Dale Mitchell, and Bob Avila. With 5 signatures on those pages, the signer wrote just a first name. Here are the names with the likely last name in parenthesis: Early (Wynn); Stevie (Gromek); Sam (Zoldak); Gene (Bearden); Mike (Tresh). Another player signed as Joe Two Punch (likely Joe Tipton). Three other pages have a short inscription with a first name. "Someone special, Ken" (likely Ken Keltner) on page 242. "Yes sir, Mick" (likely Mickey Vernon on the back endpaper with Boudreau's career stats. And "Best pal, Bill" on page 113. The most likely Bill is coach Bill McKenchie who is described in the chapter preceding the inscription. Red cloth, 246 pages. The book has foxed areas on the front and back endpapers and covers that were the product of tape ill advisedly used on a previous dust jacket protector. Otherwise, the book itself shows minimal sign of previous use. The dust jacket has a chip at the top edge of the spine extending to spine edge of the front cover. There's also some fading on the spine of the dust jacket and tanned areas on the front flaps from the past jacket protector. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 015325
