Limited to 2,000 copies, of which approximately 1,000 sets of unbound sheets were destroyed by fire. Signed by Clark Ashton Smith on the half-title. The author's first book, a collection of 55 poems which reflect the influence of Smith's mentor, fellow California poet George Sterling. The Star-Treader was favorably reviewed, with one critic proclaiming Smith the "Keats of the Pacific". Later, following the publication of his third collection of verse, Ebony and Crystal (1922), Smith received a fan letter from H.P. Lovecraft, which was the beginning of 15 years of friendship and correspondence between the two masters of dark fantasy and horror. Octavo: [100] p. with a title page printed in red and black. Original tan paper-covered boards, with decorative gilt stamping. Period previous owner's ink signature to the front flyleaf.
