First UK Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Very good book in a very good unclipped dust jacket. Signed and inscribed by the author to fellow author John Baxter on the front leaf and dated 1979. The book is in red cloth, stamped in gold with a ding to the top of the front panel, soiling to the page edges and toning to the front flyleaf with a discreet red library stamp to the rear pastedown with no other markings or inscriptions except for the author inscription. The jacket has some wear to the edges, fading to the spine and with evidence of soiling and spotting and a tear/chip to the top of the back flap. The novel centers around the impoverished hopeful lives in a Northern England factory town after the Second World War.
