FIRST EDITION INSCRIBED HARDCOVER. Seventh Printing. Near fine book in a good pictorial dust jacket. Jacket has a chip at the top of the spine and some light rubbing wear to the edges. Now protected in a mylar cover. Book has a matching green pictorial binding; a bit of rubbing wear at the bottom edge of the front board. Illustrated endpapers; Benjamin Franklin s chart of the Gulf Stream as the back endpaper. Interior is pristine. Pages are bright, tight, clean and unmarked. Rachel Carson inscribed this copy to her neighbor in Southport, Maine on the title page and it is dated September 1955 . Tucked into the book by the neighbor (now in an archival envelope) is a Boston Herald newspaper clipping, dated December 30, 1953, on Miss Carson's presentation on climate change and our warming oceans at the American Association for the Advancement of Science end-of-year symposium.
