First edition. Octavo. 217pp. + ads. Red cloth gilt. Spine a little dull, else very good. Barrett H. Clark's copy with his bookplate and ink initials. Inscribed by the author: "Dear Barrett: You and I have spent years learning how to see a play. Now, trot out the plays, say we! Yours ever Richard Burton. May 28, 1926." Clark was a very influential editor and publisher at Samuel French publisher and director of the Drama League of America. He helped guide playwrights, such as Eugene O'Neill and Maxwell Anderson, and encouraged American dramatists to tell real stories of working-class people, using language derived from everyday life.
