Zustand: very good. Tauchnitz edition. [1-8], 9-314,[6]pp. 16mo. Half green morocco over marbled boards. Gilt title to spine and "Tauchnitz" in gilt to foot of spine. Shelfwear to boards, corners, and head and tail of spine. Spine lightly sunned. T.e.g. Internally tight and clean. Signed and inscribed by Shaw on the title page to Raymond Savage "Dear Raymond Savage. You May as Well Keep This One. G. Bernard Shaw. 26 Feb 1935.". With 7 pages of correspondence laid in between Savage and Blanche Patch, Shaw's personal secretary. The letters from Patch are signed typed letters, and the letters from Savage are carbon copies. All letters dated between February and May of 1935. Letters folded with some light edgewear. An excellent, signed association copy of this collection of three plays by George Bernard Shaw. Shaw has inscribed the book to Raymond Savage. Savage was a literary agent, writer, and associate of Shaw to whom Shaw has presented this book. Laid into the book are 7 letters to and from Savage and Blanche Patch, Shaw's long-time secretary, discussing the book offered here and an article Shaw wrote, "Germany Should be Permitted to Arm to the Hilt." Savage was acting on Shaw's behalf to publish the article with King Features Syndicate, although we could find no record of its publishing. The letters go on to explain that Tauchnitz Publishing sent Savage 6 copies of "Too True to Be Good.," which Savage then sent on to Shaw. Upon receiving the books, Shaw signed a single copy, which he sent back to Savage as a thank you. Thus, this book appears to be one of 6 specially bound Publisher's presentation copies, sent to Savage for him to present to Shaw. A fascinating little book and collection of letters with excellent provenance, passing through the hands of Shaw, Shaw's long time secretary, and Savage. Tauchnitz published British and American authors in English for distribution on the European continent. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 136433
