A novel of Mexican migrant workers, the rear cover reads in part, "'Travieso' is a coming of age novel. At the age of twelve, Felipe enjoys being a free spirited youth, carried away with reckless innocence. The author paints Felipe with wide and colorful brush strokes that illustrate his lack of awareness to the consequences of his actions. However, Felipe's free-spirited ways are interrupted by his family's annual migration to Selma, California, the raisin capital of the world. Allen Anderson's farm becomes the setting for most of the novel, where for generations Felipe's family and his relatives migrate to work in the grape fields to pick grapes that will eventually become raisins. As the novel progresses, Felipe begins to become aware of the world around him. He begins to understand his family's life conditions.
