First edition, signed. Accompanied by nine loosely inserted letters sent by the author, and a photograph. The tipped-in letter states that 'I have seen no reviews of The Twofold Gandhi as yet, but I have had a warm letter of approval from an American in Virginia.' Holmes attempts to portray two sides to Gandhi, the first being the 'non-political Gandhi, the servant of the Indian poor, [who] had no word to say against the Christian Missions in India,' and his development into 'another man,' becoming 'an uncompromising and resentful enemy of the spread of Christianity in India.'
