The recipient, Henry Tatnall Brown, Jr. (1900â "1983) served as Dean of Haverford College from 1927 to 1942, guiding the institution through a period of growth and change. He later moved into banking in Philadelphia, where he combined professional work with civic leadership. A committed supporter of the arts, he held roles with organizations such as the Philadelphia Orchestra and maintained an active presence in cultural life. His passion for books led him to build a notable library and to co-author Christopher Morley: A Bibliography in 1931 with Guy Redvers Lyle. Joan Whitney Payson (1903â "1975), an heiress from the Whitney family, was a noted philanthropist and art collector.
