Joint biography of these two prolific authors, well-known in their day but now mostly forgotten, though Mary wrote the famous children's cautionary verse 'The Spider and the Fly' and the first English translations of Hans Christian Andersen tales; William wrote verse and popular histories, often in collaboration with his wife, and was an important proponent of English rural life. They were on good terms with many notable English & European authors of their day, and this study of their lives is also a look at the sociology of Victorian England.
