Beschreibung
Spine very slightly faded, top edge slightly spotted. Inscribed by the author to Lord David Cecil, "David ever affectionately AL. Nov 1945". "I owe more to David Cecil than to anyone else," wrote A.L. Rowse in the long opening memoir in his volume Friends and Contemporaries, "- except, I suppose, my parents and my old Headmaster, who saw to it that I won scholarships to take me to Oxford. I learned more from David than from anyone else in my life - certainly than from any dons. For he had a marked didactic gift, he was a marvellous teacher, naturally and unconsciously, as well as professionally as tutor and professor - even apart from his writing . . ." Rowse was in the year below Cecil at Christ Church. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers DC100227
