The paperback original first edition of the first science fiction novel by prolific, multi-genre author John Jakes. This copy was warmly inscribed on its title page by (then) 36 year old Jakes to one of science fiction's "first fans", Jack Cordes, and dated "June 1968", which is just 8 months after the book's publication. It has "First Book Publication" and Ace number "G-656" on its front cover, and no statement of edition or printing on its copyright page. This book is possibly unread, in near fine condition, marred only by a couple of tiny edge dings on the front cover, traces of corner wear, a very shallow crease in the front hinge, and normal age toning to the pages. Binding is tight and square, with no crease in the spine or back hinge. Covers are bright (neither toned nor faded), unmarked and otherwise unworn. Pages are unmarked and unworn. As with all Space Age Book purchases, I will ship this book in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure it reaches its proud new owner in the same condition as my description.
