Beschreibung
230 pp. in blank stiff wrappers and printed dust wrapper. Inscribed in fountain pen on the front free endpaper, "To Charles I. Smith/ from Bob Morris". First printing presumed as there is no statement and no mention of later printings; later printings are hardcovers, not stiff wraps, with jackets. Book is generally fine; dust jacket very good with some shallow wear to the spine ends and some foxing. Laid in is a campaign folding pamphlet from Morris' run in tne 1984 Republican primary for U.S. Senator. A "red scare" diatribe concerning the use of the 5th Amendment, America's security system, Communist influence in schools and in the United Nations, the Yalta agreement, Supreme Court decisions, and "glimpses behind official Communist reports". Robert J. Morris (191401996), a New Jersey native, was an influential Commie-hunter when he served as chief counsel to the United Staes Senate Subcommittee on Internal Security from 1951-1953 and again from 1956-1958. Morris ran in the Republican Senate primary several times (mostly in New Jersey and twice in Texas where he was defeated both times by George Herbert Walker Bush). He was president of the University of Dallas 1960-62 where his outspoken anti-Communism and other factors forced his removal. He also founded the now-defunct University of Plano.
