"Buffalo Bill" Cody lived the real American West and also helped create the "West of the imagination." In particular, he demonstrates that the Lakota and Cheyenne were active cocreators of the Wild West shows, which helped them preserve the spiritual essence of their culture in the reservation era while also imparting something of it to white society in America and Europe. BOBBY BRIDGER has spent nearly forty years researching, composing, producing, and performing A Ballad of the West, a trilogy of one-man shows that together form an epic history of the American West. He divides his time between Houston, Texas, and Cody, Wyoming, where he performs A Ballad of the West each summer.
