The book follows the American railroad network through a period of 24 hours. The subjects illustrated are from locations across the country and across five time zones. We see the system in operation at all times of the day and the illustrations include not only the trains, but bridges, tunnels, track, signalling, stations large and small, industries served by the network, the people who service the railroads and their customers.
