A la vez que el Padre Miranda pinta así á su pro pio partido, dice del contrario las siguientes pala bras, que constituyen para éste un timbre de gloria, porque gloria es, y muy grande, permanecer fiel á los suyos en los días de suprema prueba: más de año y medio hace que la Intervención está llaman do de cuantos modos ha podido á los liberales, y todavía, ni por convicción, ni por interés siquie ra, ha venido un solo liberal á acogerse á la Inter vención. Semejante firmeza de parte del partido liberal, me refiero á sus jefes, no á los subalternos que jamás han caracterizado á un partido, queda igualmente reconocida aquí por otro de los cori feos de la Intervención, don Ramón Carvallo, quien escribía entonces á su ahijado don José Hipólito González: 'es necesario, urgentísimo, consagrar toda la energía y toda la principal atención en ex terminar, en hostilizar constantemente á los dema gogos, pues ya los conocen Us. Y no deben ni soñar en que puedan cambiar de mañas ni de ideas. Pon go de relieve estos hechos, sencillamente porque los estimo justos, y no porque trate de ensalzaral partido liberal, victorioso al fin, ni tampoco de denigrar al conservador, que no obstante sus tu nestos errores, tuvo individuos que persiguieron el bien de la patria con indiscutible buena fe.
