The present plan contains nearly 600 heads, and an_ index is added so that all subjects for which heads are provided may be easily and promptly classified without a study of the whole scheme. It is believed that the present plan is detailed enough to readily provide for the most specialized agricultural litera ture, except in the department of Floriculture. This subject has been purposely omitted, as there seems no agreement among ex perts as to the form which should be given to a classification of its literature and there is nothing extant in the shape of previous efforts to serve as a satisfactory guide.

In constructing this classification the books themselves have been constantly before me, and in adding or rejecting heads the test has usually been, Is there any literature on this subject.
